Description

Story number four, two more chilling tales to go..Muhaha (sorry, that was silly)

My town is surrounded by hills and forests and many years ago in one of the valleys there was a small huntsman cabin which was a home to a local huntsman. He was an old man with no family, only his trusted hound and his forest which he was protecting and caring for with all his heart. The years passed and the town grew, the forest was protected and no construction was allowed in the hills by law, but at the base of the hills the farmland needed water, so the town administration decided that an artificial dam was going to be constructed not only to supply the farmlands with water but also to help ease the consequences of heavy rains and spring snow melting which many times caused flooding.  They decided that the valley where the huntsmans cabin stood was the perfect place since it already was enclosed by the hills and right in the path of the water currents.
The city representatives went to the huntsman and promised him that they will buy his small patch of land and will also build him a new cabin, higher up in the hills. But the huntsman was stubborn and he told them that as long as he lives, he will not leave his cabin. They tried again and again but he always refused. The construction went on as planned and soon the new dam was built with the cabin standing in its center. The construction company and the town representatives were growing impatient and they send police to remove the huntsman from the cabin by force. They paid him the Money but he threw it back to their faces. They asked him to stay away from cabin for two days so they can safely finish construction and promised him that after that they will move it all to a place of his choosing. He agreed, but was not happy about it, and the next day he snuck back to the cabin to take some of his possesions.
Unfortunately, the people who told him to wait lied, only to make him go away. The construction was actually already finished and they decided to open the floodgates and flood the entire valley which would wash away the cabin and solve their problem once and for all. The moment the huntsman opened the door of his cabin to leave with his hound, he saw a wall of water rushing at him. In few minutes, the entire valley, the cabin, huntsman and his hound all dissapeared in the dark cold waters of a new dam.
Nobody noticed the huntsmans disappearance, he had no family, no friends noone who would miss him. Only the sounds of the forest played a sad tune that night. After a while, people forgot about the whole ordeal, a beach was added to the dam. People were coming to swim, play and dive. There were few strange drownings but nobody really conected them to the ages old tale, only few divers who dared to go to the bottom of the dam said that they saw an empty cabin in the merky depths and some even said to have seen a figure walking on the bottom with a rifle ever his shoulder, hound on a leash and a dead stare on his face while they could hear a voice echoing through the cold water telling them: "Get... out..... of..... my..... valley..."

This story reminds me of a place I haven't seen since I was a little girl.

The first town I lived in was located near an old tin mine. In order to create or expand the mine (I'm not sure which), a dam was made, flooding a tiny old village. I remember exploring the mining area with my family when I was five or so, and walking along the causeway of the dam. Looking down through the water, in the shafts of sunlight, I could see an old church and some small houses. At the time I thought it was really cool and if I was a mermaid I would explore. But thinking of it now it makes me sad; where people living there when the dam was suggested? Were they forced out of their homes, or did they go willingly? It was a very beautiful scene, but sad.

I definitely feel a great amount of compassion for this huntsman, especially since he cared so much for the land around him. :(
